Rhineland Cake & Wine Company Organizes Holiday Care-Package Initiative for Minnesota Troops Deployed in Iraq

What Is The “Cakes For Troops” Initiative?

The Rhineland Cake & Wine company has teamed up with local Chaska businesses the Chaska Bakery, the American Legion, Klein Bank, the Oak Grove Dairy and the Chaska area Boy Scouts in a not-for-profit initiative to bake, package, and ship authentic holiday cakes to Minnesota troops deployed to Iraq to provide some tastes of home during the holidays.

Using our time-honored family recipe handed down through the generations and 100% natural ingredients, an authentic German holiday cake will be baked by the Chaska Bakery with natural ingredients, including dairy products donated by the Oak Grove Dairy.

Why Are We Doing This?

Being away from home and loved ones during the holidays is very hard, especially when you’re young and in a very strange and dangerous land.

“When I came to America from Germany as a young woman, the first few holiday seasons away from home were very difficult,” said Hiltrud Steimel, President of the Rhineland Cake & Wine Company. “I can sense some of what these troops will feel when the holidays come and they’re away from home and family in a strange land. Hopefully, these cakes give them a sense of home.”

What’s The Last Day to Order a Cake?

Orders must be received by Klein Bank, Chaska, by DECEMBER 8th. Cakes will be baked the evening of December 8th.

When Will The Cakes Be Shipped to Iraq?

  1. Cakes will be shipped on December 10th via express shipping to arrive fresh in time for Christmas
  2. The Chaska Area Boy Scouts are helping with packaging and shipping on December 9th at 10:00 a.m.

How to Donate a Cake for the Troops

You can help in this not-for-profit effort to uplift the spirit of our troops by sending a cake in your name to a Minnesota soldier. A donation of $35 is suggested to defray the cost of baking, packaging and shipping the cakes to Iraq.

Include a card with your name and greetings for the holidays, along with $35.00 or whatever you can, to defray the expense of baking, packaging and shipping.
